about eyelearn

a brief history

‘eyelearn’ came into existence through the apparent need for private lessons in various digital skills for amateurs and professionals alike. It was something that just evolved… and here we are.

Just to tell you a little bit about myself:
Apart from being a freelance webdesigner, I have been teaching in adult education for a few years now and even though there are – or have been – evening classes available for those working, the course content was often dictated by outdated units and course criteria. This was not only something I felt reluctant to deliver, it also greatly hindered the progress of my students (even though we always got there in the end ;) I am happy to say). The same seems to be true for other accredited courses. I have been lucky and taught in some colleges where it has been possible to push the rigid and old criteria further to deliver better quality courses.

These are the reasons why I always enjoy private tuition as it allows much more freedom in what to cover and is much more relevant to the practical application of the knowledge learnt. I love the web – in particular well designed sites – and obviously use it for both my own research and my lessons directly, so the step to e-learning was quite natural. But just to tell you from the start, I am not a company or anything remotely like that. Rather a tutor out to teach you what you would like to learn and support you in your project work. I like the personal and no-nonsense kind of approach and therefore you will find this site rather fuss-free and to the point.

the courses

As far as the lessons and courses I deliver here via the net are concerned, I am listing some proposals purely for informational purposes. Feel free to choose one of the given options, but you can also get in touch with me directly and we can discuss your requirements, ambitions, ideas, and design the course specifically for you.
I realise this is a different approach to most training provided online where it seems the norm to tell you ‘you will learn x, y and z’. It might suit you better to do a set course which follows specific techniques. I can also deliver this if you choose, but as I am not affiliated with any accredited companies, you might want to continue your search for the right course.

However, after having been on some less productive courses which missed your mark, you might feel a more hands-on approach to learning will get you further. Being able to work on your chosen project and having support available might be more what you need. With the internet being the ever-changing medium it is, the task of keeping your skills up to date can be quite time-consuming. As I work as a freelance designer I do try to work with the current techniques and always work to the web standards. You will therefore not end up with out of date knowledge but will hopefully understand recent trends and what the future might bring – and most importantly, what influence this might have on your current website.

the students

If you are wondering whether this would suit you or not, just stop wondering and get in touch…. ;)

Just to give you an idea who chooses my tuition and my courses: I have taught former students, people who have heard about me by word-of-mouth, people from small companies and businesses who have been put in charge of the website and need assistance with their project, graphic designers and webdesigners who want to brush up their skills, and even some former clients who want to learn how to update their websites themselves.

references

You might be wondering who I am to say that I can offer you good quality teaching, but the only reference I can give you is a gallery showing you my students’ work. I am quite proud looking at the projects produced over the last few years and I hope this showcase of online work will give you an idea. Here you can see for yourself ;)
